Resistance?

“Oh, you leveled up!”

“Yep.”

I shifted in bed and
stretched for maximum comfort. Lazy Sundays were the best Sundays, and
few things made me feel as warm and relaxed as watching video games and
getting to chat. They finished the dungeon, satisfied with their spoils,
and closed the game. I made a small noise of confusion before they
turned to me and smiled gently.

“So, what shall we do today?”

I
covered my mouth, spreading into a shy smile, unable to hide my
excitement. “Stuff? No particular thing comes to mind!” I chirped. I
hadn’t expected any play today, but it was a welcome surprise and
addition to the great day so far.

“Well, that’s hot, in some ways,” they chuckled, “but? Anything specific?”

“Hmm…” I pondered out loud.

“How about…resistance play? I know you do so like that.”

“Yeah!! Okay!” I propped my head up on the pillow. “What am I resisting?”

“I don’t know, what are you resisting?”

“Uh–” I stammered out in confusion. “I don’t know, I kind of hoped…you would set it?”

“Well that’s no good.” They grinned. “Are you already giving up your decisions to me?”

“No!” I huffed. “I just – hoped you had an idea in mind. Or could give me some ideas?”

They raised an eyebrow in amusement. “Well, resisting is…?”

“Is?”

“You’re supposed to be telling me.” The gently chiding tone sparked a blush in my cheeks.

“It’s
uh–!” My thought was cut short by a finger. Their finger. Waving
about, side to side, back and forth. My jaw started to go slack.
“It’s…” My voice came out slurred and fuzzy.

“Focus.” They snapped twice.

“Huh– Focus! Focus?” I shook myself out of my reverie and blinked.

“Focus. Continue.”

“Well, it’s, um…” I stammered, flustered. “It’s about…” I darted my eyes from their face to their hands.

“You seem distracted, dear.” They snapped twice. “Focus.

“F…Focus…”
My eyes were drawn to their finger once more, the undulating and
rhythmic movement capturing my attention, refusing to let it go.

“You were telling me something,” they guided me gently.

“I was…telling…”

“You were telling me what resistance was.”

“What…resistance
was.” At this point, I realized how distant and faraway my voice
sounded, but was unable to do anything about it but…but fixate.
Fixating and focusing would help. Focus.

“What is it?”

Silence.
Words ran through my head, nonsensical and random words that didn’t
make sense when strung together, almost-sentences forming in my mind,
but caught in my throat, my lips parted and a dazed expression on my
face.

“It…is…” I blinked, trying my hardest to fit the words into actual speech. “Not…? Doing something…”

“Resistance is not doing something?” They asked.

“…Yeah.” I nodded vaguely.

“Just like how you’re not doing something?”

“I’m not…doing something…”

“You’re not doing something. What is it?”

“What…is it…?” I was unable to do much more than parrot the question back.

“You’re not thinking. Isn’t that right?”

“Isn’t that…right…” It was all I had to hang on to the few words I was being fed.

“You’re not thinking, and that’s something. So you’re not doing something. So you’re resisting?”

“I’m…resisting.” I repeated.

“You’re resisting.”

“I’m resisting.” My eyes fluttered as I struggled to keep them open.

“Good
girl. You’re so good at resisting for me.” That kind voice, the one
that made me want to beam with happiness. It could never be wrong.

“I’m…resisting.” I nodded, with more energy. “I’m…I am resisting.”

“Good girl.”

“…Yeah…” I vaguely registered a vacant smile on my face.

“You’re so good at resistance play. No wonder you like it so much.” They lifted my chin and lowered their voice.

“Not thinking means you’re resisting. Resisting means not thinking for me. And you’re so good at resisting.”

I nodded. Slowly. Lazily. My mind winding down. Time distorting.

“And you love resisting. Which means you love not thinking for me.” Pause.

I nodded.

“So it’s just logical to say that you love doing as I say.”

That sounded about right. I nodded again, my vision starting to fade.

“Let’s see what else we can get you to… ‘resist’.”

They snapped twice, and my vision went white.

Oh look at this wonderful gem on my dashboardz
